Julien Capmeil Photography

Bio

Julien grew up in Sydney, Australia and spent his time skating, surfing and building snowboards.
He stumbled on a box of his dad’s underwater photos from the 70’s, images of a pristine Barrier Reef and neoprene clad divers, and he knew he had to be a photographer.
He “borrowed” his dad’s camera and began documenting his friends and their antics.
While studying a Bachelor of Arts degree he started assisting photographers in his spare time and then moved to Paris.
After 2 years assisting and shooting he made a trip to NY and could not bring himself to leave.
Although New York became his new home it was also the jump off point to his world travels.
He has travelled extensively since, capturing images of the diverse locations and peoples he encounters.
Be it a Fashion Shoot in Sweden, a Travel Story in the Maldives, a Hotel Client in Jamaica or a Personal Project in Capetown, Julien approaches each shoot with the same enthusiasm he had when he laid eyes on his dad’s box of photos.
He now lives in Brooklyn and wonders when his son will find the box he just hid for him.
His work has appeared in numerous magazines worldwide and his clients include:
